How To Make Weekends At Home Feel Special
Saturdays feel like Wednesdays, Fridays feel like Mondays and all the days just merge and blend into one. To be honest, sometimes I don’t even know what day it is anymore. At this point, I’m just rolling with it. No matter where you are in the world, whether you’re coming out of lockdown and feel anxious about getting back to your “normal” routine, or you’re like myself still in lockdown for at least another month ( best case scenario); weekends just don’t have the same feel they did at the beginning of the year; or any other year for the matter.
But that doesn’t mean weekends can’t be special, refreshing and vigorating. They might not look the same but there is definitely an abundance of ways to make the most out of your weekends!
Here’s 8 ideas to try out this weekend:
1. Indoor camping Grab the blankets, the fairy lights, ALL the pillows and don’t forget the snacks (the snacks are a non-negotiable). Pop your fav movie on and spend the night in your living room, indulging your inner child.
2. Have a DIY pamper session The point of a spa day is to relax and usually that means you’re not the one doing the pampering but never mind that. In all honesty, my skincare routine is centered around my face and that’s about it so trust me when I say you’ll thank yourself later when you take some time out to focus on your nails, hair and body. 3. Cook a 3- Course Meal You don’t need to be entertaining a bazillion people to break out the “good cutlery” or “fancy plates.” Pick an international cuisine and go to town on a 3-course meal just because you can. Turn the music on and spend hours in the kitchen- tasting, testing and experimenting with new foods. Then of course, take your time enjoying and savoring the delicious food you’ve spent all afternoon perfecting.
4. Host a virtual girls night
Miss the girls? Can’t have them over for your ritual Friday evening girl’s night? No biggie. Round up your BFF’s for a virtual girl’s night instead. Jump on zoom and invite away. Don’t forget to set the pre-requisites in advance. Here’s what mine would include- pajamas, music, games, plenty of cocktails, chocolate and of course a facemask. Better yet, go Oprah on your besties and plan it in advance; so you can send out a special paper invitation, with a little box of goodies for your girls to receive in the mail.
5. Get dressed up Athleisure, loungewear, pajamas and definitely no bra, seems to be the going normal for what we’re all wearing during quarantine; at the very least it my normal. Try making your weekends feel a bit special by spending some extra time in the morning doing your hair and make-up and putting together an outfit that differs from your current go-to. You’ll feel like a whole new individual and it doesn’t matter if “no one is going to see you,” you’ll see you and you’ll feel bloody good about it too.
6. Turn off your phone and go outside We live in a technology-based society and more often than not, we’re spending hours upon hours scrolling aimlessly and getting caught up in the vortex of social media. Whilst I’m all for social media and the advancement of technology, too much of a good thing is bad for you. Switch off, disconnect and spend some time outdoors for that much needed vitamin D.
7. Recreate your go-to brunch order Hands up who else misses going to brunch? It’s not the same as sitting at your favorite café or restaurant but real talk- it’s the food and company we’re actually missing. Number 4 helps cover the company aspect, so let’s talk about the all-important brunch order. If you’re anything like me, I’m the type of person that constantly says “I’ll order something new this time” and, I never do. Spend your morning this weekend recreating your go-to order (coffee included). Who knows, maybe once you’re allowed to entertain guests again, Sunday brunch will be at your place next.
8. Start a weekend hobby I think it’s fair to say many of us have started doing new things this year to pass the time. But what about finding something to do only on weekends? By restricting yourself from doing it during the week, you’ll have something to actually look forward too. Whether it be a jigsaw puzzle, an online class or course, gardening, cooking, reading or writing… Save it for Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
